i have burned or stuck valves on my 350 i assume because the car has a loud ticking noise that doesnt seem to be exhaust leak the 350 had 76cc heads and my project 79 camaro has a 305w 60 cc heads will these work on my 350. I hate to do it but i need the car to get to work.

Are you sure the valves are adjusted correctly? they will tick when they are too loose... now thats out of the way, yes the heads will fit... you will probally get more bottom end power due to higher compression and give up top end power due to the smaller valves

do verify that it is not an exhaust leak... run compressed air backwards up the exhaust  with a rag stuffed in the opening.. try to not overpressurize the exhaust system.. you should be able to feel if there is any leak by running your hands around..

it could also be a cam going flat...

and they make special pistons to use 305 heads on 350s.. reduced compression.. engine quest used to make extra thick head gaskets to make up for surfacing the head and decks to restore compression ratio....

I just finished building a 350 with World Products 4265 ("305" cast under covers)58cc heads in my 87 Trans AM. The dish (~-8 to -10cc) piston specs put me at 9.5 to one CR w/58cc. I reduced the CR down by using GM .050 thick head gaskets and currently running 89 octaine with no problems and awsome power. It runs great. I haven't tried regular yet. I read that the problem with stock 305 heads is that they have smaller volume runners than 350 heads. That will probably give you a little better gas mielage and less power than I got. I'd go ahead and port your 305 heads. Just don't over do it on the carb. I'm runnung a 600 Edlebrock and getting 18 mpg on the highway if i keep my foot out of it, which I find tremendously difficult.

I'd figure out what was wrong before swapping the heads out. Use a 3/8" 2 or 3 ft hose stuck in your ear to find out where the noise is comming from then go from there. Don't forget to stick it in the PVC valve and Oil fill holes. Have you tried readjusting your valve lash with the engine running? You may find out you have a broken spring. At least you can tell which valve is causing the problem. It could be a bad cam or lifter.
