lets start with a side view  of the clutch disc....   if you look at a stock clutch disc you will notice the friction faces are mounted on little tabs that are bent... and the facings are riveted to the high side of the bend...  this allows the clutch plate to  compress the disc until the space between the friction linings is gone...  this allows an easy gradual engaugement..

if you have a racing disc...  some have the space between the linings and some are solid...

sounds like you have a solid disc...

your left foot will have to moderate the release of the pedal...    practice will help more... now that you understand what is happening...     i know a lot of people who run racing puck discs on the street...

a little more slipping before the point of lock up is called for....

Sounds like an ignition or carb problem.

when you say slipping thats the samething as riding the clutch correct? if so then i have ridden the clutch and it still doesnt respond well at all

my truck is a 72 c10 long bed the carb is an edlebrock 600 i believe and its turned about all the way down to prevent from flooding

well ive adjusted the carb many times it never responded when i did all it ever did was flood after about 20min of running, my ignition is an omni coil pack but that was what was on there from the 2barrel now i have a 4
