Hi,

My husbabnd's treasured 1968 black camaro was stolen Wednesday night (3/12) from in
front of our house in Marina del Rey, California. He has had the car for 21 years
bought it and restored it with his father so it is irreplacable. Does
anyone have any recommendations or advice for how to get it back? Or if these things ever have happy endings?
Description- It's black, left back bumper has a dent on
it, there was a CA license plate that said BUZZ II and also a Plymouth State
College sticker on the window. I know it's a long shot but I have to do
something. We are so sick about this loss. $1,000 Reward for any tips that result in it's recovery no
questions asked! Thanks!

there has been a rash of 1st gen camaro thefts here in so cal... i have not hurd or cars being recovered yet....

somebody broke through a locked gate, through the roll up doors, moved a bunch of cars to get a nice one...

another guy lost his hot rod and enclosed black trailer...

a lady in the valley lost her 68 camaro  ... white and black or black and white...

somebody is probably got a garage or covered backyard  and is stripping them to sell parts online..

or to swap vin numbers off wrecked cars...

people are also steeling copper pipes and wire... in broad daylight.... so if you see somebody acting strange.. or run across parts that come from a complete car...
copper is selling in china for $8,100+ a ton.   camaros are worth more in parts especially when you dont have a pink slip and the car is stolen...

you car could be next... time for lo jacks everybody...  they even have them for computers now...

Lo Jacks don't do crap. Thieves who are stealing cars like this know how to get around a Lo Jack system.

The first best thing is, if you have a garage in your home, put your treasured car there. If not, if the car's gonna be in a driveway, park it so it's hard to steal, such as parking your daily driver in front of the car so it can't be moved. Pull the coil wire or install a hidden kill switch.

When you're out driving your car around, pay attention as you're going home, keep an eye out to see if anyone's following you, or if you notice an out of place car cruisng by your house scoping things out. If you think someone's checking out your car to possibly steal it, sleep lightly that night, have the shotgun ready, and when the dogs try to steal your ride cut them down.

I know someone will say this "If a criminal wants to steal your car, they'll find a way"

Well, this is true, but you sure as hell don't have to make it easy for them!

i have installed for customers and friends... kill switches... pedal locks,  parking brake pedal locks... parking brake handle locks.  had concrete coring companys come out and drill core holes and installed frame pulling pots so cars could be chained down...   we did them up in front of the houses next door also... they caught on and chain their cars to them also... i have seen custom machined collars on the steering shafts to the steering can be locked at an angle..

i have seen vented rotors with padlocks in them...

fuel line shut offs...

kill switches installed to cut the fuel pump power..

rotors with a hole drilled in the bottom... coil output straight to ground...

vacuum hose as a coil wire... until i said try it.. and the car started...  oops on that one...

120+ Db horns inside the car to deafen the their..

removable steering wheels with locking hubs...  most effective... you dont even need to carry away the wheel...

one guy who had his car almost stolen a few times.. had hooked up a spring to the gas pedal.. so it was up... but had a hidden pull cable that would hold the throttle wide open.... that one got exciting... the day he forgot to disarm it.. glad he put in arp rod bolts...

i am waiting for the msd antitheft system...  puts a corona of blue sheet lightening over the outside of the car if you get too close... like the guy who tries to shut off the motor by pulling trying to pull the coil wire out of the mallory coil...  are you ok steve??? that was cool... and you do that again... some guys missed that... sort of a kramer on seinfeld moment..

Wow, another one??? Sorry to hear and hopefully it'll get recovered. I just heard that a friend of ours had his blown 'Elco stolen last Friday in the Valley, which was right around the corner from my home.

back in 1987 a brand new el camino ss was stolen from the driveway at our shop..  the owner had only been out of the car for 30 seconds when it got stolen..

another shop employee was just coming back from lunch.. and followed it...

the car got parked on a street and the motor was still running... the driver ran off and returned with a few friends out from a driveway...  they unbolted a few parts..
got in a moved the car down a few houses.. more people came out and took more parts...  again.. the push down the street... the front clip went...    when it got to the end of the block... it went up on blocks and the wheels went...  it was the entire block striping cars...   that was when you could not have an elco here in la without it being stolen...  sometimes at gun point....

everybody needs to be on the look out for people with too many parts off complete cars... something is happening to them...  they are not going complete to the scrap yards...    oh yea.. the scrap metal yards here accept whole cars without paper work... drag them in and the car is scrap..

Thats hard to hear that people would stoop to such levels like that, how can someone steal a piece of history. I hope there is a resolution to this craziness.
