You might want to try looking at firebird formulas and also some of the of the first few years of the new GTO's. I have found several GTO's for under $14,000 with the 5.7 with less than 45,000. There are some good formula's out there for less than $14,000. But good deals for formula's are hard to find. The Z28's are pretty easy to get ahold of for under $14,000. There are tons of them that have low miles.

I'm guessing you're pretty young, which means sky high insurance prices?
If you're looking for osmehting to have fun with, work on for more performance, but won't kill your wallet, I'd suggest you look for an '01-'03 Chevy or GMC full size pickup (1/2-ton shortbed) with either a 4.8L or 5.3L V-8. You're getting an LS motor in a plain brown wrapper basically. All the same motor stuff guys do with Camaros and Trans Ams work on the truck motors, and the truck motor's tne times easier to work on.
On the suspension side, there's a fair amount of aftermarket suspension stuff for the later model trucks, you can lower them an inch or two and improve the handling without any trouble.
And the great thing is, if you've got a budget max of $14k, you can pick up a truck for well under $10k, so you'll have plenty of money left for performance stuff.

I agree with phill... i bought a '01 with the 350 vortec for 5k and i put a max spending limit on it at 15k so with 10k left i put cold air kit, chipped it, new exhaust system, body kit, grille and many other things and plan on a sound system soon....the engines are easy to work on and you can get a lot of performance out of them

Age can have a big impact when it comes to insurance, so I have to agree with Phil. An LS1 powered Camaro or Thunderchicken would be nice, but if the insurance is going to make you grub on .99 burgers indefinitely - forget it.

I am in the same boat, i cant afford much or a project at the moment being so young. So just look for something affordable and like Henry said dont go broke over it. By all means you dont want to do that, as good as the jack in the box value meal is you dont want to eat that forever. haha

Hey you might want to look into the 94-96 caprice classics. The ex squad cars with the police package. I have a 94 and it will keep up with a 94-96 camaro Z28. I have a 5.7L 350 in it which they put in some of them for a lot better kick. I bought it with less than 60,000 miles on it for around 1,500. Just find out if your police stations still are running some of them. And try and find out when they will be selling them, or auctioning them off.

Look at whatever you want!Don't matter what it is.If you want an Opel GT with a small block, build one.I've always wanted a Studebaker Lark with a smallie.Remember The Flintstone Flyer II ? Just buy what you can afford ,and what looks good to you.Not what some magazine says is the coolest thing right now,or because some guy on a forum said you'd like it.Just look around and dream a little. After all,it's gonna be YOUR car. You'll be allright.Anyone named McLovin is got to be OK!!
