why?... just build a 350, besides the heads wont fit on a 305 because the valves will most likely hit the block and if by some miracle they didn't you would lose power because of the increased combustion chamber size... and as to what cam, are you planning on running flat tappet or roller? if you are goning to build a 350 just invest in a vortec block with heads, should set you back about $450 for one that needs to be rebuilt and then you will have roller cam and vortec heads which both are the most bang for the buck

I agree the 305 was an attempt to get better gas milage. The 350 is the way to go.Ported and polished heads on a 350 with 750 holley, edelbrock performer intake, headers, and a Crane cam 460/470 lift 218 duration could probley make 325 to 350 hp and still be very streetable

If you can only afford to work with the 305, get a set of performance 305 heads from Edlebrock. A well built 305 will make great power for everyday driving and economy. Add to that a 305 specific cam from Comp, and you'll be good to go.
If you can afford to buy and build a 350, go that route.

yo can put the comp cam xtereme enegy 262 cam(pn 12-238-2) It has a duration @.050: 218 intake, 224 exhaust. The lift is .462 intake, .469 exhaust. Lope separation angle is 110 degrees. Mathch that with you headds, or gm vortec and a performer rpm intake with a 650 carb you can peak at 325 at 5,500 rpm's. If you want to stick with this 305 then this is the way to go. Don't go over anymore lift than .472, without different springs. You can check a Chevy High performance August/2000 to see this build up(pg 32). Good luck with you build
