In the article titled Freedom Flow in the Jan. 08 issue the part number for the Isky Red Zone lifters shows them to be for a tall deck motor. Was this a tall deck motor? If not why would you use tall deck lifters? I would really like to duplicate this motor. Thanks

It's been a bit since this was posted but unless I am very wrong, the deck height has no bearing on the lifters used, only the pushrods, intake manifold and distributor are specific to a tall deck block.

In regards to this engine, I would very much like to see the same build with 13-1 compression, 1050 Dominator and a Comp 11-717-9 camshaft. I think this would illustrate the capability of Patriot's product to perform on equal footing with heads that cost more than twice as much, if they can.

I'm certain that many other people would be interested to see how well the heads would perform in this typ of application as well.

One more thing, if any of you fellas at the magazine read this, I triple dog dare you to do it. You ain't got a hair on your greasy butts if you don't.

LOL, nice one Larry. The test you noted would be fun to say the least. We haven't produced as many high compression mills as I would like to see, but that would certainly be a good start. I'm on it, thanks!

Hey Henry,

It only took 7 months for you guys to finally build an engine with some backbone! Too bad Brule didn't use the Patriot heads on it. I bet it would've came close to those what those AFR's made.

I got bored after I posted about this and built what I wanted to see in the magazine. I used a slightly shorter cam, the 11-717-9 I posted before. I ported my own Merlin III heads and used the same intake manifold with a 1050 Dominator. I also used the same pistons and ignition as the engine in the new story. It made 778hp and whomped Brule's engine by an average of 20lbft from 3500 to 7000.

Nice work though, it's good to see some reporting on plain old butt kickin' horsepower.

I really don't think that Patriot heads are up to the level of AFR heads. Horsepower is MUCH MORE than flow numbers.
