I have a MarinePower 454. It was purchased in 1996 and according to the owner's manual it's their standard Gen V block with 340 hp (crankshaft horsepower). It has a hydraulic flat tappet cam in it and I would like to upgrade to a roller cam and lifters. I would like to know what numbers (i.e. duration lift etc...) I have for baseline data to use in selecting the new cam. I can't find any helpful #'s on the cam. On one end is stamped "MAP". In different places between the lobes is EP2, D1, 05 and 27. Any help finding out what cam came in this motor would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Don't worry about what cam you have now. It's a marine cam specifically for boats, so using it as a guide won't do anything for you. It's gonna have a wide lobe sep, and be set up for constant RPM, low RPM use.
What you need to do is call the tech help line for Comp Cams, tell them the motor you have, and the general performance you're looking for from the motor. From there they can advise you what cam to go with.

phill, thanks for the reply. I've downloaded Comp's CamQuest6 software and am playing with different cams. Thanks again.
