I have a 350sbc w/ a 4 bolt main, i just wanted some input about running a 13:1 comp ratio. i hate to have a blower and have crap hanging out of my hood and I'd just rather have a N/a engine. i have asked several engine shops (opelengineering)and they basically told me high compression is the way to go if you dont want forced air induction.. i know this isnt exactly a everyday street car at all. Gas is a killer but the engine shop also told me a way from spending money on race fuel is you could buy ethanol e85 or straight ethanol(which has a octane rating of 110 or so) with minor tweaking of the carb and timing it would run fine. besides that can anyone who has a high compression engine steer me in the right direction on which parts for the lower end and valvetrain and also give some hints on build tips!?

Go to innovatemotorsports.com they have some threads in there forum about converting to E85. Do a search. I just put a 383 in my TA. If I had to do it all over again I think I would have put a blower on my ZZ3 350 and had just as much HP or more and been alot tamer on the street. They have some nice blow through carb setups. Get the fuel or timing wrong and it could hurt itself with that much compression.

What are your power goals? Ethanol is corrosive, it's not as easy as it sounds. Do your homework before you decide to go 13:1 You can make a lot of streetable power with a good combo on pump gas at 10.5 to one, and spray it at the track using a secondary fuel system for the high dollar gas.
