truck 427's (not pickup truck) are tall deck blocks.. and probably have 4 ring pistons...

so it will have a differnt intake, longer pushrods, ...and be wider so it will be harder to fit in a normal car ....

anybody else with differnces to list

truck blocks have a deck height of 10.2 inches, where as car blocks are 9.8.other things that are different are cylinder heads (truck used "peanut port" oval port heads)which are even smaller in size than the passenger car oval ports.there is other differences, but cant remember off the top of my head.hope it helps

The truck blocks usually had extra reliefs machined in in case of an overrev. The blocks usually had a higher nickel content for added strength. The good news is, it's still a Mark IV block, so better oval port or rectangular port heads will bolt right on.

If your vehicle can accomadate a taller block, what a good excuse to build a longer rod 496 stroker.Intake spacers, machine distribiter hole on intake, exhaust hook-up,hood clearance (Bad speelling night)some body else will have more precautions than what I listed.  WIEDER

I just bought a 427 Tall Deck Truck Engine for my 72 Chevelle.  It was rebuilt and stroked to 476.  It came mostly complete but I need to find a few parts before dropping it in.  I need an alternator Bracket, Flexplate, and Starter, and my question is where do I get these?  Are 454 BB chevy parts interchangable?  I can't find anyplace that lists parts for this Engine!!  Some help would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks,
Bob

I aquired two 427's tall blocks, one was running on natural gas and the other brand new still in the crate from GM. I am looking to place the new one in my 68 chevelle, question will it fit under the big block hood? Also I would like to install a better Cam in my attempt to get a little more HP. What Cam would give me the lumpy ness and horse power needed for just a basic cruiser. Motors have stock heads.
Thanks Ross

That tall block is begging for a 4.25 crank, but if not in the budget I had to at least mention it.Those heads will limit your choices. We need to know your drivetrain set-up in order to dail in a cam for you.Let us know     WIEDER

Wieder; this 427 motor is new from the factory how ever it has been sitting all wrapped up inside a heated office for the past 10years. Still in the crate. block cast # 10069284. It came with factory heads with stamp GM 4T    E678    343772,, other numbers are Mark IV 4.250.3.76.6.135. This car was a 307 3speed with a 273 gear rear end . This car is just a daily driver and to car shows. No racing. don't know much about this stuff but I would like to add a cam for some rock & go. I am also looking for an alumn intake to fit T Block, The carb right now is a 600 carter but getting 750.

Regards

If your aware of the requirements of tall blocks for your application like hood clearance, exhaust hook-up......Sounds crazy but if you can set the tall 427 in your engine bay and check on possible hang-ups before you invest even more.If it looks possible, cam picks:stay under 218 @.050 intake duration then you can leave everything else alone.Get a complete cam kit and change out exhaust spring rotators and get intake spacers for your Performer type intake.Maybe you can find a tall OEM distributor or a slip coller type.Touch base   WIEDER
