That does sound suspicious.

You could change the ECM yourself and see if that solves the problem. But you could have some serious gremlins lurking. I'd say take the car to a shop you can trust and get a second opinion. Paying to have the car towed someplace else will be a helluva lot cheaper than payng $2000 for work you might not need.

Car has original alarm system.  One thing I did notice that when driving my radio would turn off at times.... The dealer said that the BCM, PCM, ECM were shorted.

Hey, My 95 Z28 did the same thing. My optispark was going bad. Be very careful with the Dealer they are looking for there best interest. If you still have your stock Optispark it could be going bad. How many miles do you have on your car ? I'v heard all of these code's will flash if the Opti is going bad. I'm not saying that is your problem but, I'd check it out . Good Luck !

wow those two cars seem to have a simular problem....

on optispark systems ... always put a new coil on it first to see if that fixes any misfire problems... so much easier.. right on top....

time for a change in stratagy...

and a second proffesional mechanics  first hand opinion..

www.iatn.net has a shop finder to find local shops that are part of their site.. most are real professionals who know what they are doing.. and have the resources of 40,000 techs to ask when they dont know....

what codes are you throwing?? i wouldnt look just at the opti until you have the codes checked! as far as the radio turnign on and off thats got nothing to do with the opti! it has a loose connection in the radio itself!

I am an ASE electronics mechanic and first off on new cars everything is controlled by the computers...everything.  So if you are having a computer problem it could definitely be causing a radio problem.

Take this scenario for instance.  In older cars with electric windows when you push the window up button the switch engaged at the proper direction and the motor was engaged either forward or backward and your window went either up or down.

On new cars when you push the window button a signal is sent to the computer and the computer decides whether or not it wants the window to go down, if it does then it decides the best way to get the window down and then it sends a signal to the motor to roll the window down.

Your problem could definitely be the computer but I would not suspect that it would be all three major modules although it very well could be.  It sounds to me like the mechanic did not want to put in all the time it would take him to trouble shoot through the entire electronics system in order to find the exact problem so he figured he would just cover all the bases by telling you what he told you.  and I really don’t blame him, gm only pays for 30-45 minutes for trouble shooting a problem after that he is working for free to find a problem that you probably aren’t going to be able to pay him to fix because any of the computers on their own is going to cost you 800-1000 to fix.
