Can a 200r4 transmission be built up to withstand a motor putting out about 450 to 500hp on motor? Is the 700r4 better? Will a 4L60e work on a carbureted motor?Going in a 1986 Monte Carlo SS.Is it a waste of time?Should I just put in a 3 speed and be done with it? It will be a street/strip car.

Can a 200r4 transmission be built up to withstand a motor putting out about 450 to 500hp on motor       yes.......

Is the 700r4 better.. probably not.. there are more holes drilled in the 700/4L60 input shaft that have to be there.. the 200r4 has less so replacments  can be made stronger..

there is a point where the 700/4l60 cannot handle the power.. and you would be better off building up a 200r4.. or going to a th350 or powerglide...     there is a lot of stuff to be daid about the th400 also.. some parts need to be changed.. to reduce rotating weight... and then there is the 4l80E...

Will a 4L60e work on a carbureted motor?Going in a 1986 Monte Carlo SS.Is it a waste of time?     yes it will work but it has to have the added features installed to handle the extra horsepower...    as would the 200 r4...

the turbo 350 can handle the power with less mods...  so you just have to plan on your rear end gears to run a th350...

the reason there is confusion is that builders all do it a little differnt.. and dont like to give up their secrets...  it is their trade secret... and cash in their banks..
