hello all, new to the site
i have a 69 nova with a 383 stroker, 10.5 :1 pistons, dart pro 1 aluminum heads, vic jr intake, demon 650 carb with  69 primary jets, 74 secondaries and 35 squirters.
i JUST put this ram air system on that draws air from right behind the headlights. my plugs are a light brown with a dark black basering.
which i know is close to ideal.
whats odd is i have a terrible breakup and hesitation at around 3500 rpms to about 4200. i redline at 6500. ive went up in jets only to have the problem worsen. this problem has really got me.
id really appreciate the help! i searched but no results for my exact problem.

what is the timing doing??????

do you know anybody with an automotive scope.. .do not hook it up to the primary if i you have msd or other race type ign systems.

got a timing light...  can you hook it up and watch the flashing to see if it is ign related... ..

anybody with a chassie dyno near by???

If the timing isn't going wacky, check the valvesprings. Sounds like you're having trouble with spring surge in that RPM range. What springs are installed on your engine? What cam are you running, type and specs?

Sounds more like a carb problem to me ...with the info you gave. It may be a fuel problem in the transision from primary to secondary circuit.....is it a vac sec or a mech sec.....it really sounds like the secondaries are beginning to open but no fuel....more info would be helpful....did it have a slight hesitation before?.....did it start when you installed the ram air? is there any interference with the linkage on the sec side.....doesnt sound like a timing or valvetrain to me.......Viper

look down the carb when the motor is ideling, if you see fuel, no good. I know the carb you have, may have a needle and seat issue.
