chevy c10

How can u tell what type of trans u have if it has no numbers or anything on it.i have an 80 chevy sliverado i dont know if it has 305 or a 350 it has an automatic trans but i dont know what it is.Can i put the guts out of a 4wd auto trans in my 2wd auto trans housin?  

'80 was before they were putting overdrive automatics in the trucks. If it's a TH350, the pan will be square shaped with a notch cut out of one of the corners. If it's a TH400, one side of the pan will have a curved shaped.

If for some reason it's a 700R4, the pan will be square shaped.

As for swapping the internals, as long as they're the same transmissions, you should be able to swap the internals.  

On the inside of the glovebox door, there is usually a spec plate that is mounted there. It is supposed to give you what is in the truck. Unless......it is like mine and was removed.

84' Chevy C-10

As far as ur engine size, if you have the original book, there is a chart in there that tells u what motor your truck came with stock. All u have to do is check the vin number. If you lack this book, then im sure you can find the chart online somewhere. HOpe this helps, and looks like your other questions were answered.

You most likely have the 350 thm. It is easy to tell, square pan with a modulator beside the tail shaft, and yes the internals will swap out as long as the donor trans is the same the only difference is there is a couple different lengths of tail shafts. the over drives dont have a modulator at all, they use a throttle valve.
