Just wondering if anybody else has come across this problem?
I pulled out the old 305 guttless carbureted LG4 out of my 86 Iroc and dropped in a kickass 350 with a 4" highrise intake and an 650cfm Edelbrock Performer carburetor.
My problem is, I've only got 2" left of hood clearance at the front of the carb and I don't really want to cut through the hood. Having also a heat build-up problem from the hedders, I've decided to scoop in fresh air by installing the ram air housing assembly from the TPI's 3rd gen Camaros which fits over the rad and brings in fresh air from the front of the rad. With 2 K&N Filters in this Ram Air systems, I've designed a custom made air box over the carb which just fits under the hood and connected the two with a 3" hose.
Is there an air box or a plenum already commercially available? I've been looking for 3 years now.

If you find one let us know. Me and my bud ran into the same problem and from the sounds of it fixed it in the same manner. The only other way we could see to solve it would be to buy a cowl hood for it.

Check out www.ramairbox.com they've got a dual snorkel air box kit number F14X3@110 which will fit under the hood of 3rd gen camaros.

I realize this thread is a little old however it exactly the question I have asked at 3rd gen.org with no luck. The ramair box suggested is too high for my appication because of the RPM Air Gap manifold. I've also had the notion of building a custom intake using the factory twin element air filter housing and a modified 14" open style lid and base with the filter removed. Either that or a cowl induction hood. I also question whether the factory housing can flow enough air to support around 400hp. Any further progress on a solution?
