i have a 88 Chevy k1500 pickup single cab with 3.73 in the back. and i am thinking about installing the t56 in it. i am replacing my 700R4 and i was wondering what problems i am going to run into. and the other question is what are the gear ratio's in the t56 and the 700R4. thanks

I've got a '92 Silverado. Sometimes I wish it were a stick myself!

Honestly, converting to a T56 is gonna be an issue with your truck, especially since its a 4WD. Unless you plan on disabling the 4WD, you'll have to find a way to hook the transfer case up to the T56. You'll have to find a '87 - '98 truck with a stick and get the clutch pedal assembly and all the other related accessories (including clutch master cylinder, linkages, etc.) to install on your truck.

Why are you considering this swap? Better shifting performance? If that's the case, my recommendation would be to have a performnce 700R4 built to install in your truck.

ya i was wondering about the 4x4 part of the swap how bad would that be? and is the t56 the same length? and thanks for replying tho

anyways i have a rebuilt 700r4 built all the way except for the internal shafts and what not so around 500hp/500tq is what the 700R4 is rated at (i got tired of it giving out after a boat pull or so lol)

the reason i was wanting the swap is i love my 3.73's but the 700r4 even with the over drive cant cut the interstate use and flat roads so the 6speed appealed to me because the ratios were closer together and with almost the same 1st gear (3.08 vs 2.97) and .60 6th gear i would be running around 1500 rpms give or take at 70mph.
