I'm a big fan of the 262V6, don't ask me why, lol...My ? is this...I want to put some more power through my Z code 262, and I've heard that the V6 is identicle to the 305/350 set up, minus the 2 extra cylinders. Can I bore and stroke the 6, possibly add on another power adder like a supercharger ? I realize that the engine bay I've got now doesn't afford the necessary room for a SBC conversion without "trimming" the fire wall for the distributor, but if I do the internal mods, no question about fitment.....any idea's would be great !!! I'd really love a bad ass, sleeper 6!!
Thanks !

The aftermarket support for this engine isn't the greatest. Your best bet in finding pistons to stroke this engine are probably some individual (or maybe even sets of 8 if you want some spare parts part numbers for standard 383 Chevy pistons and rings, which of course isn't the most economical scenario but it's still probably better than custom-built pieces. Since you're planning on a power adder that's probably the only way you will find a forging for your motor. I'd  see what I could find for aftermarket rods as well since you already have to buy a crank. It's insurance since you will be making similar horsepower per cylinder compared to a mild supercharged 350...

You will need to work with the cylinder heads if you want them to breathe even decently for this project. If you don't have a very good head porter around and someone who can do a fine valve job and don't want to buy bigger valves, aftermarket valve springs, etc I'd look at something like this...

Hot Rod did a 4.3 with a blower a while back and got away with ported stock heads but I'm sure they would've told you it wasn't the most economical in terms of horsepower/dollar as aftermarket heads would've seen a significant increase. Here is the article I'm referring to, it would be good to take a look at...

Fitment issues may also pop up. I realize that the bore spacing and bore/stroke are the same as a 350 but I'm unsure of other internal dimensions that could reduce camshaft to connecting rod clearance. All 383's need grinding (on the rod and block), cap-screw connecting rods or a small-base circle cam. The small-base circle camshaft would be a pretty good idea since you will obviously need an afermarket cam anyway, it will add a little to the cost but it's justifiable...

Now, finding a crankshaft may be the most difficult part of this. It may be the single factor that doesn't allow you to stroke this motor since a $2000+ custom crank is I'm sure out of the question. Talk to your machinist about some heavy machine work to possibly get this to work. Maybe with some offset grinding, thick bearings, and 2.00" pin connecting rod you may be able to make your stock crank into around a 3.75" stroke but you will put some serious money into your crank and actually just weaken it. It will be a cooky combination, talk to the person who is actually going to do this work and see if he has faith in it and see if he has a better alternative...

Now, get several grand ($$$) together and get a hold of some local engine gurus/machinists and get started!

Remember the old Typhoon/Cyclone trucks? Turbocharged 4.3L V-6

What you should look at doing if you want mroe power, build the short block (stock stroke, maybe a .030" overbore) with good forged pistons and rods. Have your net compression be about 8.5:1. Have the heads worked on for better flow, or go with afetrmarket heads. Then spend the money for a good turbo or blower kit for the engine. With the right pieces (cam, heads, blower/turbo), your 4.3L should make great power for a V-6 (I'd estimate 350 depending on how much boost you throw at it) and still get you V-6 gas mileage.

The cyclone is the only good option.I looked into this with my 89' S-10 a couple yrs ago.The heads are 2500 bucks from World Products for the sportsman design 4.3 castings.

Thanks for the info guys...I've thought about the cyclone/typhoon swao, but there are guys out there that are puttin' up enormous cash for the vehicle whole...where would I find a TC V6 ? I've considered all of the options and I'm going to go with a custom set up that a freind at GM performance is going to help me with....Fortunatley for me, he doesn't really have anything else to do right now because he's on strike !!!!!!
