I have a 66 Chevy Caprice w/327 and a two speed power-glide. I want to get rid of the power-glide and install a better tranny on it. My question to you is what would be a better tranny to hook up to the 327 and yet have power and save gas? I have been looking at the 700s, 350s, 400s, and 200s. On that 327 I have installed the eddlebrock performers package with the mild cam and just trying to get it running smooth.
Thank you, any advice would be appriciated!

Even going to a TH350 over your powerglid is gonna give you better economy.
Since you're gonna have to get an aftermarket trans crossmember and a new/shorter driveshaft to do this swap, I'd recommend going with a good 700Ra trans. This is basically a TH350 with an overdrive, and will give you the best economy while still having good performance. If you're getting a 700R4 out of a salvage yard or swap meet to rebuild, you want to stick with one that's '87 or newer. This units have a beefier input shaft and some other design improvements that GM installed from the factory.
If you have the money, just buy a good built 700R4 from a reputable performance trans shop.
