Well i got a 454 with a comp cams Xtream Energy cam. .552  intake, .555 exhaust with a lobe seperation of 110.0. Now i dont know if i need to give more info on the cam but will my engine produce enough vaccume to power the brakes or should i go with a vaccume canister, or save up  little and go with the poker steering booster kit?

that cam with your displacement should be marginal for power brakes.anything under 12 inches of idle vacuum a booster should be used.hope this helps.

I also have a 454 with a big cam in my '70 chevelle.  It also makes poor vacuum unless I rev the throttle with my right foot and brake with my left.  That gets tricky sometimes though with it being a manual trans and my only having two legs.  I installed a vacuum reserve canister without noticing a change.  I ran a vacuum line from the manifold to the check valve on the canister, then a line from the brass port on the canister to the check valve on the booster.  Is this correct?  Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Doing research to find more vac. and ran across this thread. What models did the power steering booster come on and will it work on my 86 Blazer to help pull more vacuum?

Producing vacuum from the power steering pump? I've never heard of such a thing...

I'm awfully sure nothing like that exists, a "booster" (on brakes or power steering) uses the vacuum the engine produces to get more line pressure. I've heard of systems that use the power steering pump to power the brake systems but never of one producing more vacuum on its own.

This is something I came up with quick...
