Hey chevy lovers I have a quick question, I have a 86 MC with a 305 in it. I've been thinking about putting a 350 in it but was wondering what I can do to beef up the horsepower. I'm not sure which one is going to cost more just buying a fresh 350 crate motor or upgrading my 305. Please leave all your suggestions thanks montecarlo305

Looking at the bottom line, while it may be a bit cheaper to just refresh and upgrade your 305, in the long run the better move is to swap in a 350. If you're looking for a good budget crate motor that'll swap right in to your Monte, check out the 290-horse 350 base crate engine that GM Performance Parts sells. It makes 290 hrosepower and a healthy amount of torque, so it'll motivate your Monte nicely. And you can go back in later and uprgade the motor with some aluminum heads and a bigger cam for even more power.
