23 degree heads

does anyone know of a way to check sbc heads to make sure that they are 23 degree without pulling the heads and doing a whole bunch of measuring?

Are you wondering if the heads were angle milled and that changed the angle? Otherwise, on a mild engine you're probably not going to find anything other than 23° heads. Most 18° heads require a "18°-specific" intake manifold, headers, and valvetrain. Usually with offset lifters and shaft rocker arms. So if you have a true 18° head you should know it...
