How do I find out what kind of engine my car has?

I have a old 1970 montecarlo but I'm the second owner and I believe the first owner put a newer engine in it, how can I find out the stats(year,type of 350,how much HP, ect) on this engine?

theres a book called chevy by the numbers. you can get it an any major book store. you have to look up all the casting numbers

If you are interested The First Generation Monte Carlo site can probably tell what should have been in there prior to the exchange. They are experts at this stuff for your vehicle.
