Hi guys. I currently have a 1970 chevy truck that I drag race
![]()
![]()
![]() . However Ive only got experiance building up crate motors with aftermarket heads/cams ect ect. Last trip to the drag races Yielded what I can only guess is a cracked compression ring. It not pumps out of the breather cap, and the number 8 cylinders compression is WAY down. So now Im looking at rebuilding this thing.
This is where you come in ![]()
Ive never rebuilt the rotating assembly. The block is a 1991 crate motor engine, so one peice rear main. I need some advice on this build. baisically im only rebuilding the bottom end, as the top end is still new. World sportsman II heads, 1.52 comp cams rockers, comp cams 280h cam, Wieand tunnel ram, rebuilt Carter AFB 500cfm carbs (edelbrock) Mallory unilite distributer, Mallory Hyfire 7 digital ignition, Msd superconductor wires.
So im going to be keeping all this.
I need to rebuild the bottom end, but im on a VERY strict budget, so I need to build as much power, for as little money as possible. Being my first time doing this, I need as much advice as I can get. Parts, required machineing (because I know you can go crazy and spend a jack load on this alone) and ideas. Parts being the most important. Im not sure exactly what im looking for, or whats going to make me the most power for the least amount of money. So your ideas here will help me out a bunch. If you have a favorite combination, let me know. Master techs please speak up here.
I WANT YOU! to help me rebuild this thing.
