Well Id like ta say I did,but that may b one of the few conversions Ive never.U say its a Gen5.I know a couple ton bout Gen4,and Iwas under the impression part of the reason GM made Gen5 was to fit the roller cam assembly. However I could've been misinformed.I do know for enough cash(sorry, not a clue to pricing), you can machine the block to use a roller settup in a Gen4,so Gen5 may b the same.If you dont mind my askin, why you want to? BBC Gen4or5 can put out serios pony's without a roller camshaft. You have an ECM to bother with,or that was stock, etc. My buddt's got a early model Scarreb with twin Gen4's runs real strong on stock settup flatappet's.Im curriuos now, bout Gen5's.Summit Racing has a build guide written by the guys who had a lot to do with all the BBC's.I had one back in 94'.Long since gone now.Id start there.Thinkin the title was how to hotrod big block chev.

well now you have me guessing..Maybe its a Gen 4..All i know is that it is not a roller motor...no roller cam or roller tappets..I want to convert for a couple reasons...1 being that there is less friction..And the other is..i run a blower on my motor and it seems that my cam selections that i have been playing with is kinda hard on the valve train...my current setup on dyno is 678.9hp...While im playing..just wanna see how much is left on the table between a flat tappet and a roller tappet cam...Best i can figure and read up on is that is about 40-60 hp on the dyno when you run a roller....Plus with a roller you dont have to run near as much spring pressure...Just playing is all im really doing....Thanks for your info

Well to tell u the truth ,less of just wanting a blower,You can get a 454 past 700 HP easy without oxidizers.Back in 94' a good friend had a 70'Chevelle 454 was all natural running past 800 on the flywheel. It was an LS6 worked all the way out.The internall parts list read like a christmas list, and big money, but it pulled something like 840+ on dyno.Thinkin It was around $9,000 or so time it was in the mounts. But if u want a roller cam I believe they started around 87',couldnt b sure though.I do know TBI was 87'and the roller cam was in part to accomidate valve lift 4 HP.Wasnt really about friction,so much as short duration at high lift creating more HP without such radical idle.Small gains, but they do exist.

Edelbrock makes a set of roller lifters for these older blocks that I believe will work, 450 I think for a complete set.

I would recommend Comps rollers. They have a tiny hole drilled in them to pressure oil the axles.Check with your local machine shop when parts,I found they can get real good prices.I got my lifter/rockers from mine.$350 for the lifters(solid),and $225 for the Pro Magnum rockers.Go roller, you won't regret it.I promise.I'll never have another flat tappet.

i'm building a gen v right now and converting it to a 427, and as i understand and have read all gen 5 & 6 are roller blocks, iknow mine is a factory 4 bolt roller, they had an artical in this mag about 2 months ago that explained a few things, but not all things, but they use the off set bars on the rollers which are very expensive which is why i'm going with a flat tappet setup, the gen v block is exactly like the gen IV with few exception which is very noticable. if you need anything else i'll be glad to try and answer them and i to would as much info on the gen V. hope this helps, butch
