hi there, this is my first post and i have a '66 GMC pickup with what im told is a 327 in it. id like to do somthing with the engine but im not sure where to start, if it would be worth my building it myself (it would be the first car engine ive rebuilt although ive done lots of snowmobile and small engines). or should i look into just buying a longblock ready to go. 300-400hp is what im thinking but i dont know if thats out of line or what. any direction would be a great help.
thanks in advance!

you dont see many 327's around anymore,as everything nowadays seems huge cubic inch.personally, ive had experiences with these motors and if they are done right, they are great performers for their size.a couple months ago there was an article on a 400hp 327 that chp dyno'd,using edelbrock performer package(if i remember correctly),and cranked out over 500 hp on spray,on pump gas.id go for it. good luck.

if your are looking for 300-400hp then your best bet is to stay with the 327. it's a good classic engine and can make exactly what you're looking for. you'll save some money with the rebuild, that engine should have the camel hump heads on it so you'll save a good chunk of change there since those are 300 horse heads to begin with. i've also got a 327 rebuild in progress, but mine is from my 66 impala and going in a 84MC SS. bottom line is your engine came with about 275-300hp stock. you'll be able to make an easily affordable 350hp before even thinking about boring her over .30 like most would suggest. good luck man.
