my 83 Sierra is hard to start when cold. Just swapped the engine with acrate motor. Starts right up when warm. and runs like a top. Takes several cranks and pumps of the gas to get going when it's cold. All major parts are new. Nothings been done to the distributor, shoould I start there? All answers welcome.

Hi, if you are still having starting problems here are a couple of things to try: First take off the air cleaner and turn the throttle on the carb while looking down the carb throat. You should see fuel squirting into the engine. If it isnt then that could be the problem. Also check the choke to see if it is adjusted correctly. Second you should definitely check the timing. If it is too retarded then that can cause hard starting. Hope this helps, but you probably already have it running well by now.
