So i made a trade with a bud of mine, i traded my victor heads for his set of performer 454-R heads with the long 315cc intake runners and 115cc combustion chamber. These were the heads i spoke of earlier but i thought they were AFR heads. So these are the heads i now own, along with a Dominator carb i got out of the deal which i sold because im not really wanting the 1050 Cfm, i prefer the double pumper i already have. With that i also got his Edelrock RPM Air Gap intake that has been ported to mach the heads whis have also been ported to 320cc on the inake runners. So are these heads a smarter way to go?

You're a little warmer but you aren't scalding yet...
For only 230°@.050 a rectangular port head is plenty for 454 C.I.D. People have done it for probably thirty years but there is still a better powerband trapped within a set of ovals. If using the 315 heads simplifies things for you though, go ahead and use them, you can always grow into them with a larger engine or 7-8 pounds of boost.

May I ask if you had the block decked and what head gasket you used when you assembled this engine? If you buy 8.5:1 pistons you need to make sure you have the same specifications for that 8.5:1 as the manufacturer otherwise you can lose a half a point very quickly. If you do indeed have less 8:1 (which I wouldn't be surprised) this doesn't help your cause of trying to make this thing a daily driver!

Yah the block was decked, not by much but it was. I was told it was not necessary but i had it done anyways just to clean it up, as for the head gasket i used a felt-pro gasket that came with the kit i bought. Nothing special, and as for my daily driver situation, im looking into buying a 73 4 door dullie with an 84 front clip. Its also has a fresh 454 and and a 5-speed with air lockers in the front a rear axeles. But it also has a 8 inch lift an 38's. But for a grand its looking nice.

I ran that identical cam in my 396.with 9:1 compression, bone stock ovalports and 3.73s with 28" tires on 3400lb car,I ran 7.85@87moh in the 1/8.It's a good running cam,but mine was very noisy.Noisy from the time I installed it,and real noisy when it swiped a lobe at about 1500 miles.Hope you have better luck with yours.Make sure you run a small tube header(1 7/8").Theres nothing wrong with leaving room to grow, either
