i am installing a serpentine belt system of an 98 vortec 350 to my 86 chevy c10. i know i must change water pumps since it will turn it the wrong way. my question is does the water pump work on my gen 1 small chevy since i dont think the newer water pump has a bypass in it. i kno it bolts on but will i work properly

It works fine. If you're retaining a pump driven fan, it also has to be changed to a reverse rotation part common to serpentine belted engines.
