I recently purchased an 88 IROC L98 (B2L). According to the codes, this was a 350 TPI and I'm told it has the 700r4 auto trans. This is going to be my first resto job and my first 3rd gen camaro. I noticed a light on the instrument panel that reads "UP SHIFT". I thought the words "UP SHIFT" only showed up on standard cars, not automatics. Does anyone have an insight on this ? Would there be an RPO code that signifies if this car was originally standard ?

Any help would be appreciated...

Frank, the VIN number is coded for when built, where built and with what built.

Check the chip. I had a 5spd car and put a Jet chip in it only to discover that they shipped me one for an auto and the upshift light came on. Removed the chip and got the right one and it went away.

dang, it typed that then realized this post was almost a year old.
